The Righteous Choice
George Washington and the Power He Gave Back
The Righteousness Museum • Kids Zone eBook
George Washington was a leader.
He was brave.
He was fair.
But his greatest choice was not to keep power.
It was to give it back.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Righteousness means doing the right thing, even when you could do something else. Can you say “righteousness” three times?
==================================================
PAGE 2 — WHAT IS RIGHTEOUSNESS?
Righteousness is a big word.
It means choosing good, fair, honest, kind, and brave.
It means doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
George Washington tried to live this way.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
What does righteousness mean to you?

PAGE 3 — A BOY WHO PRACTICED DOING RIGHT
George Washington grew up in Virginia.
He liked math, measuring land, and being outdoors.
He learned that small choices matter.
Telling the truth, keeping promises, and helping others are ways to practice righteousness.
Note for Grown-Ups:
Some cherry tree stories about George are legends. The real lesson is still true: honesty matters.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Tell the truth today—even in a small thing.

PAGE 4 — BRAVE AT VALLEY FORGE
During the American Revolution, George led soldiers.
At Valley Forge, winter was cold.
Food was hard to find.
Many soldiers were sick.
George stayed with them.
He did not run away.
Righteousness means being brave and faithful when things are hard.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Who needs your courage or kindness this week?
==================================================
PAGE 5 — FAIRNESS IN LEADERSHIP
George did not lead alone.
He listened to others.
He worked with Congress.
He asked for advice.
He treated people with respect.
A righteous leader does not say, “I am the boss, so I am always right.”
A righteous leader serves.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Practice listening before you speak.
==================================================
PAGE 6 — THE BIG CHOICE
After the war, George was very popular.
Some people wanted him to be king.
He said no.
He gave back his military power and went home.
That was a righteous choice.
He did not grab power.
He gave it back.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Have you ever given up something you wanted so someone else could have it?
==================================================
PAGE 7 — PRESIDENT, THEN HOME AGAIN
Later, George became the first President.
He served two terms.
Then he stepped down.
Some leaders want to stay forever.
George showed that leaders should not hold power too long.
The country was more important than one man.
This was a righteous innovation—a new, good way to lead.

RIGHTEOUSNESS CHALLENGE:
Name one way you can share power or take turns.
==================================================
